This class covers: Visual introduction to Hindu Deities, Asuras, Festivals through videos, art and crafts. Class teaches kids to recognize basic patterns and conventions. E.g., Krishna is painted blue, but his clothing is painted yellow. The hear the popular narratives of Devatas from the Hindu tradition. Teach the ‘Om Jai Jagadish Hare’ Arati. Each class starts with the Namaste gesture and recitation of Om!

Navaratri Week!
Nava=Nine Ratri=Nights
Vijaya=Victory Dashami=10
Deva = Good Person
Ashura = Bad Person/Demon
Mahishashura story
Mahishashura was a bad person who prayed to Bhrama
He prayed to be immortal (to bhrama)
Since Mahishashura prayed a lot to Bhrama his boon was granted
He prayed to not be defeated by man on earth not (to bhrama)
All of the gods were scared
The gods went to goddess Durga
Durga sits on a tiger/lion
Durga fought with Mahishashura fought for 9 days and 9 nights
On the 10th day she became a tiger and brought him up to the air
At dusk she killed him
This is why we celebrate Navarathri and Vijayadhashami
We should work on our bad qualities over the nine days of Navarathri
We talked about what we should work on over these nine days
Eat anything even if you dont like it - Be thankful for what food you have
No crying

The kids did Aarthi with the song om jai Jaga dhi Shri hari
Today the kids in Dharma 1:
-Chanted om 3 times
-Learnt the meaning of Namaste
-Learnt the significance of Ganesha’s body parts
-Made a cd Ganesha hanging ornament
-Learnt vakra tunda sloka
Hw: practice vakra tunda mahakaya
Materials covered in class: Introductions, name of Gods kids worship at home, Kids shared short stories of Lord Hanuman, Krishna, Rama, Ganesha, looked at pictures of Gods and Goddess in Dharma book and learned names of all Gods and Goddesses.
Homework for this week:
1. Kids should learn the meaning of their name in both english and hindi/or regional language and share with the class next time.
2. Kids to learn the name of God/Godess they are worship at home as some couldn’t share these names during the class today.
