First we started the class by reading the story (Jai Hind! Jai Hind Ki Sena!) on pages 11-12 of the yellow book, then we reviewed synonyms on certain tricky vocabulary words, and we finished with a game of Hangman. The homework is the questions (about the story read in class) on page 13.
We started the class by reviewing and constructively critiquing the homework from last week. Afterwards, we started collectively reading from page 11 on the yellow books, reviewing vocab and pronunciations as we read. On this page, the context of the text also lead us to learn about some basic Indian geography (example: the students should be able to approximately identify where Rajasthan and the Himalayas are on the Indian map). We ended the day with playing Hangman, including a Hindi word as a way to have fun and engage with Hindi at the same time. For homework next week, the students are assigned to finish reading and fully comprehending chapter 4.
At the beginning of class we revised the story for last week’s homework, then we did some questions on the story, and ended with a game of charades. The homework for this week is to write 5 sentences on a topic of your choice.
Today in Hindi D (10/12), we worked on reading skills by reading through page 7 of the yellow book, reviewing and making sense of any complex vocabulary as we read. To emphasize paying attention and understanding Hindi, we had one student read while others paid attention and being held accountable to answer questions regarding what their fellow classmates read. Afterwards, we practiced speaking by talking about regular conversational topics (favorite movie, ice-cream, activities, daily schedule, etc…). For homework, they have been assigned to fully finish reading and comprehending page 7, and to write 5-10 sentences about their favorite show/movie.
