Today we covered chapter 2 in the textbook. Students should have also gotten their textbook today.
We started off class by revising what we learned about Brahma. Then we talked more about Saraswati Devi. Saraswati was created by Brahma during a time of darkness created by ignorance because no one had knowledge or wisdom. She travels on a White Swan, which represents the ability to make right choices. The lotus represent creation and the ability to remain pure in a world of evil. Veena represents speech, music, Arts and beauty. Japamala represents the power and energy of letters and also faith and devotion. Finally the four vedas are the source of knowledge and wisdom. We also talked about some of the lesson taught by both Brahma and Saraswati: There is greater happiness in sharing with others than in keeping them to ourselves. There is greater happiness in having self control and forgiving others. Finally we read some quotes from the textbook and the students were asked what it meant to them. The homework for this week: students should learn/practice Saraswati Namastubyam sloka and be able to say it meaning, as it will be on the exam.
